Presidential Message

Turkey’s ongoing peace negotiations with the Kurd’s represent one of the most important developments in the country’s history. After 90 years of violence, assimilation, and human rights violations, an honorable settlement is within reach.

The Peace and Democracy Party supports a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue based on democratic rights for all citizens of Turkey. Replacing the current system of extreme centralization with a pluralistic model built around 25 empowered local administrations would allow the country’s diverse communities to flourish and represent themselves.

We believe the United States, as Turkey’s close ally, has an important role to play in encouraging a just peace.

Selahattin Demirtas

Co-Chair, Peace and Democracy Party
